[EDIT: This is my pet project. I will update it when fic makes me squee.]

I have been keeping this private for ages on my Private Person lj but I thought the public (which never actually sees this journal so, yeah) would benefit from my painstakingly accumulated list of awesome. You will note--if you are there, which is already as unlikely as Jodie Foster being the representative of the human race to aliens but it's still an awesome imaginary scenario so I will stick with it--that I speak to myself a lot. I tend to do that. Especially because of the existential crisis that is speaking to a public thing you think the public isn't reading. I will warn (assuming the existence of) you that, like, 99.999% of this is slash. I think one or two women may have made it on but it was against my better angels.

Yeah, that's right.

Now, Glee, we must have a heart-to-heart. I get that you're afflicted by the Ryan Murphy. No, really, I get that. He is probably to blame for the interpretive-pregnancy-dance set to James Brown from the other week. That shit was weird, I'm just saying. And I feel like sitting SOMEone down, I'm not sure who, and talking about how Bohemian Rhapsody was a BAD FIT for the whole labor thing.

But, see, show--do you mind if I call you 'show'? I mean it lovingly--you are filled with the most earnest of earnest adorable emotive faux-teen actors. I mean, the faces they were making in the finale. I had to physically restrain myself from pinching cheeks that were not actually in the room with me.

So what I'm saying is...you're not so much on the plot. Or the characters, really. As they say [sing] in Damn Yankees, "You've got heart." Out the wazoo. You could do ANYTHING--don't tell Ryan Murphy I said that--and I would watch if you did it with those kids.

Also. Thank you for being on so far into summer. You almost seamlessly transitioned me to USA's summer season and it has been KILLING me waiting for Psych to come back.

Title: An Unexpected Reboot (2/2)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ifeelbetter
Pairing: Gus/Shawn
Word Count: 2,922
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: Don't own, won't ever, wish I did.
Summary: An IT Crowd AU. Shawn and Gus are the IT division of a major corporation. Abigail may have told the teensiest-tinest lie on her resume--she claimed to have "extensive knowledge of computers" when she ought to have said she "had been in the same room as a computer once or twice"--and now she's in charge of their department.
Notes: I collected pickup lines from all over the internet. It's amazing how you can type [random word] + "pickup lines" and always find something. My favorite one that I didn't get to use was "Your mouth says, 'Shields up!', but your eyes say, 'A hull breach is imminent.'"

Please. My milkshake brings all the girls to the yard, Gus. )

Notes: If you haven't yet seen The IT Crowd (I hear there's a US remake that should be avoided like the plague), you ought to. Also, this is my first time posting to this community so feel free to slap on the cuffs if I done wrong.

Shawn looked at the phone. Then he looked at the pineapple smoothie in his left hand. He looked back at the ringing phone. Then he looked at the Tyrannosaurus Rex figurine in his right hand. )

So the other day a friend asked me what it would take to cheer me up after an early morning of teach/grading and I really only had one answer, waffle though I may: TV. Maybe some coffee. A hamburger if I'm lucky. But mostly TV. So if I tend to fixate, sue me. It's where I find my jollies.

(I really do sort of mean "jollies" as in "laugh like a bowl full of jelly" kind of jolly)

So.

I would like to make a point about the Mentalist. It's like three different USA shows put together (80% Psych---my GOD is there a lot of Psych, 10% White Collar--because where else do you find that dynamic level of pompousness?) ...

Back to my point. This "Jane" fella is a less poised Neal, an un-funny Shawn, and the utmost run-of-the-mill version of every slightly quirky detective this side of Columbo. It's like this show was aiming for all of the shows that succeed solely through charm but removed all of the charm -- an impressive feat since I don't know where the "charm" gland is in a TV show. I appreciate anyone who'll hire Sarah Pailey (that's a The Craft reference for those who were not teenaged girls in '96), so that's nice and all, but COME ON. What have you done with all the charm?

Which is my other point. USA is a fine network -- if I was speaking instead of typing, you'd have heard how I was accentuating the "fine" in that sentence. If I could mack it to a network, that's the one I'd be going home with. I would so stop it at a bar and say something like, "Do you know karate? Cuz your body is really kickin'" and then do the whole half-nod-smirk-thing. It would be fierce.

So. Back to the first point. I have officially given The Mentalist a shot. I watched. I nearly gagged, but I watched it. Psych is all about Shawn and Gus being awkward and talented in some ways but mostly oddballs and children in disguise. The Mentalist is all about this blonde dude being right all the time and all sadpants about whether "the other side" exists or not and how important religion is for people to be good and kind and rainbows. And that may be how primetime rolls but I'm all about USA. And the BBC. And, you know, thousands of other TV shows and networks. But I am still mad impressed by USA.
