MEME -- or how to develop bad sleeping habits in one step or less
Lots of pillows or just one?
GOD it would be nice to have more than one. Or if that one wasn't the cheapest, oldest piece of fluff to ever pretend to be a pillow. I'm just saying.
What kind of books do you read?
Books for prelims. All the time. And they have titles like Japan's Love-Hate Relationship With The West and that's sad for my life because that title? Takes all the mystery out of our relationship. There's nothing in that book I couldn't predict from the title.
What are your neighbors like?
A nice little family that runs a little on the creepy side. We share a basement and the door is in our bathroom--the guy once knocked while I was in the shower. As if I would be like, "Oh, yeah, sure dude...let's chat while I'm naked. NO THANK YOU.
Have you ever run your cheek bone into a door?
Would you believe me when I say that I have run into doors in every way possible? From every direction? Hitting every square inch of myself? Because this is just truth I am laying on you here.
Tell 3 things you have in your point of view right now.
1) My "point of view"? What does this even mean? I'm looking at my computer. You knew that. You're a meme. You have no existence outside of my computer...ergo, I'm looking at my computer.
2) But, in another sense, my "point of view" is that Keep Calm and Carry On is wise advice as well as a catchy slogan.
3) Or, if we're being literal here, the "point" from which "my view" is happening is my chair. The chair I bought from a vintage/antique place down the block from me because they called it a "Mad Men chair" on the tag. Because I am a consumerist like that.
What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
Hawaii Five-0 makes me coo at the TV. No lie.
Do you prefer your junk food sweet, salty or savory?
Sweet. No, wait. Salty. No--hold on. Swee--Sal--GOD. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE.
What websites do you always visit when you go online?
Google Reader, lj, and ModCloth. I am THAT COOL.
What was the last thing you bought?
Coffee. It is the thing I spend the most money on. I often forget to eat but I never forget coffee.
What is your favorite power?
I was just telling someone this afternoon--teleportation. So I would never have to lug my damn laptop all over creation anymore. (Real world alternative, self, is learn how to drive.)
What is the most awesome thing you have ever done?
I once did a presentation about America (which, bee-tee-dubs, always turned into a That-Is-Why-NJ-Is-Best-Kids presentation the way I did it) to a room full of 400 5th graders in Japan. And I could answer both the Japanese and English questions and it was awesome. Or--ooh!--the time I went on tour in Germany with a production of "Bob" (a knock-off of "Fosse") and we got a standing ovation.
What was the last meal you ate?
...pasta. It was dull. But. The upside is I ate today! Woot!
Do you want to learn another language?
I know Japanese and English. I'd like to learn Hindi. Or Mandarin.
Five things you want right now:
1) Pie.
2) A cheeseburger.
3) A romper. I almost always want a romper. I try to resist.
4) MOAR HAWAII FIVE-0!
5) Prelims to magically disappear!
Find the closest book currently sitting near you and flip to page 36. What is the first sentence of the second paragraph?
"However, this fantastic legend stuck, not the 'chord of nature' but rather the chord of culture." (Transpacific Displacement: Ethnography, Translation, and Intertextual Travel in Twentieth-Century American Literature by Yunte Huang)
What's something that someone said to you today that was amusing?
A friend told me how her little brother saw a pomegranate on the kitchen table and asked, "What's with that weird apple?" and her little sister replied: "First--that's a pomegranate. Secondly--that's not an apple."
What are you looking forward to?
The end of prelims...late January. Eye on the prize, self. Eye on the prize.
What is your favorite baseball team? What is your favorite hockey team? What is your favorite sport?
I know one sports thing: I like Wimbledon and I am waiting for Andy Roddick to repay my devotion by kicking Federer's ass all over the court. I have faith.
What is your favorite electronic accessory?
In these days of broken and breaking devices, I find I am addicted--hopelessly devoted, like Olivia Newton-John once said--to all of them. iPod, Macbook Pro, TV, internet, cell phone...I love you all.
Peace! I'm off to bed.
